Despite the fuss and expense, celebrity weddings are not a guaranteed success. If it’s not the extravagance that’s ridiculed it’s the lack of. Below are just a few of the most memorable:

    Katie Price and Peter Andre
In 2005, Katie Price and Peter Andre tied the knot in Berkshire’s Highclere Castle. The press labelled the fairytale-themed wedding everything from tacky to chav-tastic. Katie’s dress, measuring 10ft wide, stole most of the attention. The pink Barbie-style wedding dress designed by Isabell Kristensen, featured thousands of Swarovski crystals. Topping the outfit was a foot-high crown.

    Katy Perry and Russell Brand
Russell Brand and Katie Perry opted for a Hindu ceremony on the outskirts of the Rajasthani nature reserve. The event included an authentic Baraat procession where the groom travelled to the wedding venue on horseback accompanied by his relatives and friends. The celebrity couple sat on gold thrones beneath a mandap (a canopy supported by four pillars). Decorating the mandap were red and gold ribbons – colours used to symbolize prosperity. The entertainment included Indian musicians playing the sitar and Rajasthani kettledrums, fire-eaters, snake charmers and dance troupes.

    Elton John and David Furnish
Sir Elton John and David Furnish chose Windsor’s Guildhall as the venue to their civil partnership ceremony in 2005. A small number of guests, including the couple’s black and white spaniel, Arthur, witnessed the ceremony. When it came to the wedding outfits, Sir Elton ditched his flamboyant tastes and wore a smart black morning suit.
Among the swarm of fans, police and press were two females who had baked the happy couple a wedding gift. Sir Elton and David spotted them in the crowd and were apparently delighted to receive their present, a cake in their honour titled ‘Appley Ever After.’

    Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s wedding in 2004 was called the ‘worst wedding ever’ (and that was by one of the guests). The Kabbalah ceremony took place in a rented house in Los Angeles. Guests were asked to change out of their wedding outfits and into tracksuits marked ‘Maids’ for the women and ‘Pimps’ for the men. It’s rumoured that guests had to pay for their own drinks and were served mini-cheeseburgers.

    Prince Charles and Diana Spencer
Diana Spencer married Prince Charles in 1981, in St. Paul’s Cathedral. Ten-thousand hand-sewn pearls and sequins adorned the bride’s dress, designed by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel.
The couple’s wedding cake reached over five-foot tall and featured ribbons, bows and floral sprays. In case of any mishaps, The Royal Navy Cookery School made two identical cakes. Following tradition, the couple saved the second tier of the cake and used it for Prince William’s christening.

    Madonna and Guy Ritchie
Madonna and Guy Ritchie held their wedding ceremony at Skibo Castle in Scotland. The groom wore a traditional kilt, while the bride wore a Stella McCartney dress. The ivory gown consisted of a corset bodice and long train, while the antique veil boasted 19th century lace. Topping the ensemble was an Edwardian diamond tiara on loan from Asprey and Garrard of London.

    Victoria Adams and David Beckham
In 1999, David Beckham and Victoria Adams tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle. A small number of family and friends witnessed the ceremony, held in a private room. When the ceremony was over, the couple released white doves into the air. The bride wore a champagne coloured dress designed by Vera Wang, while the groom wore a white tuxedo. Invited to the reception were hundreds of guests dressed – as requested – in black and white.
